It’s almost that time of the year again, when the brightest stars across style, politics, entertainment and sport will be honoured at GQ’s annual Men Of The Year Awards, in association with Hugo Boss. Now in its 22nd year, the awards ceremony has become one of the most hotly anticipated events on the cultural calendar, attracting attendees such as The Prince Of Wales, John Legend, Donatella Versace and Sir Elton John.
With a guest list that always includes the biggest stars in the world, this year GQ has enlisted one such star to host, actor and activist Michael Sheen, who himself won Actor Of The Year at the awards in 2009. Sheen has pledged to donate his performance fee for the event to the Homeless World Cup: Cardiff 2019, a tournament that hopes to spread awareness about homelessness by inviting disadvantaged players to compete.
“I’m really delighted to have been asked to host this year’s GQ Awards,” says Sheen, who recently appeared in Amazon Prime’s Good Omens. “I know how much it meant to me when I received one myself so I feel very grateful to be able to join in celebrating the achievements of all those honoured this year. It’s particularly exciting to use the occasion to support this year’s Homeless World Cup in Cardiff. So thank you very much to GQ for that.”
GQ Editor-In-Chief Dylan Jones comments, “We thank Michael Sheen for hosting the 22nd GQ Men Of The Year Awards and for making this donation to the Homeless World Cup. Michael’s lifelong dedication to engaging people on issues that affect us all will make a difference to people’s lives across the country.”
With less than two months to go until the ceremony in September, the countdown to the GQ Men Of The Year Awards 2019 is now officially on.
